The Marradi pine forest is located in the heart of Castiglioncello, a tourist and renown town, which is delimited on its eastern edge by Aurelia Street, on the western edge are the cliffs and the beach resorts, stretching 75,000 sq. m. The pine forest is connected with the surrounding areas by four stairways on the side of Aurelia Street, and two driveways: one on Guglielmo Marconi Street and the other one located south on the way to the entrance to the former athletic fields, along the Alberto Sordi and Colombo seafront promenades.

There is a footpath across the forest, which divides the side overlooking the mount and the side overlooking the sea.

The area included in the ideas competition comprised all the territory of Marradi pine forest along with a contingent extension of the neighbouring areas: the pavement along the former Aurelia Street, and the streets leading to the pine forest and the accesses to the sea.

The renovation works consisted in the construction of routes and all of the necessary tourist and accommodation facilities that for decades have been a considerable source of income in that part of the coast.

The main idea was to turn the area into a site that offers activities and facilities, such as a small museum and a cinema, in order to promote tourism flows even in low season. In addition to that, the site was enriched with a multistorey car park on top of which there is a SPA, a swimming pool, another swimming pool with a rowing machine, shops for water sports equipment, solar panel-roof covering.
